My wonderful friend Carrie, you will never be forgotten x
My dearest friend Carrie. By my side & in my heart – always.
Darling sister of my heart, the most special person I have ever had the privilege to know. Your deep love and beautiful friendship brought me so much joy. Rest peacefully. xx
I met Carrie in Canoa, Ecuador, a small beach town. It was 2006, probably March or April. I remember sitting around a bar table with her and a couple of other solo travelers as we shared our plans for the weeks ahead. Carrie said that she would be biking down Cotopaxi. I said I would be going to the Black Sheep Inn near Mirador a la Laguna Quilotoa. We parted ways the next day. I wouldn’t have thought about Carrie again, except six months later I ran into her in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I was with two friends at the Sunday Night Market and we were walking down an alleyway, and I said to them “I know her!” My friends didn’t believe me as I was pointing to a woman watching a man make a fishing net. I walked up to her and reintroduced myself. She knew me right away. We all couldn’t believe the coincidence. So we hung out that night getting food and drinks and wandering the night market scene. We parted again and connected on Facebook. I think about Carrie from time to time. The amazing coincidence of our reencounter and that we share the same birthday, May 13. For some reason, it was the universe’s plan that we meet in two wildly different parts of the world. The improbability of the occurrence made me look for more coincidences in my life, to find the magic in moments of serendipity, to begin to believe that there might just be a higher power making lots of decisions that I don’t understand and that I am part of something greater than just my current existence. I thought of Carrie recently. I am not sure if it was when she passed or not, but the universe had me reinstall Facebook recently, so I have to think it was so I could read her obituary post and know a fellow traveler has made it home. Sending my deepest condolences to her family and friends. I am grateful to have known her.
My dearest friend Carrie. I will always remember the time we spent together and the support you gave me when the children were young, and the fun we had. Remembered always. xx
A family friend since 1980. We shared many happy memories growing up. We will always remember and cherish them.
