I was lucky enough to work with ‘Auntie Ed’ at Chiseldon House. She was such a lovely lady and I will never forget her, I learnt a lot from her and she was always so kind. I still have the beautiful clown brooch she gave me for Christmas one year.

I watched the service earlier and it was beautiful, you all did her proud.

Sending all the family my love xx

Its almost impossible to believe that it was nearly 50 years ago when I met Ed on the platform at Swindon railway station waiting for the train to Bath! First she got me to go to see a play, then I did FOH, then ASM and the next thing I knew I was on stage acting. We did lots of plays together but I’ll never forget her Mrs Squeers to my Nicholas Nickleby. She was always there when someone (often me) needed a person to talk to, she was there for her friends and family – and that family included all of the Western Players. She was the consummate actress and the professional stage lost more than it realised when she gave it up. In her second career she could sell ice to the Eskimos and it was a great disappointment to her when she had to retire and stop being of service to people. We had some wonderful holidays over the year, Spain, Eire and all over the UK. I do hope that heaven is properly colour co-ordinated otherwise she will be causing chaos putting it to rights – but nobody will mind. Rest in peace dear Ed, you’ll be with us for ever!
