Bringing New Life to Old Buildings

A Testament to Our Values

At Hillier Funeral Service, we believe in the beauty and history of our local community, and we are proud to announce the renovation of an old Grade II listed building - Lime Kiln House in Royal Wootton Basset to serve as our fourth funeral home in the local area.

This is not just an investment in a building but a reaffirmation of our commitment to preserving the past while meeting the needs of the present.

Why Renovate Old Buildings?

Renovating old buildings is about more than aesthetics; it’s about sustainability, heritage, and community spirit. By breathing new life into structures with history, we reduce waste and environmental impact compared to building new facilities.

This approach respects the craftsmanship and stories embedded in these walls, creating spaces that are both functional and meaningful. Lime Kiln House in Royal Wootton Bassett has been vacant since July 2021, and was last used as an office building.

The rear modern extension was historically used as a radio studio occupied by SAM FM and Great Western Radio. Our plans to turn the building into a funeral home will include comfortable arrangement rooms, peaceful Chapels of Rest and plenty of on-site parking.

A Proven Approach: Kingshill House & Highworth

This is not the first time we have undertaken such a project. Our head office at Kingshill House, in Old Town, Swindon stands as a shining example of how thoughtful renovation canmerge traditional character with modern practicality.

Completed in November 2022, the careful restoration of Grade II listed building, Kingshill House into a fully functioning modern funeral home has allowed us to preserve a piece of local history while creating a welcoming and functional space for the families we serve.

And in June 2018, we competed a two year project to renovate an old car showroom and petrol station into what is now our Highworth funeral home. The building needed a new roof and a complete new internal
steel structure.

It’s now a beautiful and peaceful funeral home with two chapels of rest, arrangement rooms, mortuary, garaging for a hearse and limousine and a caretakers flat.

Expanding Our Service to Royal Wootton Bassett

This new funeral home will also enable us to better serve the needs of Royal Wootton Bassett as we expand the number of families we support.

By establishing a presence in this area, we aim to provide the same compassionate care and dedicated service that our Swindon locations are known for, ensuring that more families have access to the support they need during life’s most challenging moments.

A Commitment to Our Local Community

Hillier Funeral Service is a family-run business deeply rooted in Swindon, and so we see each renovation project as an opportunity to give back to the community that has supported us for years.

Mark Hillier says, “Restoring old buildings reflects our dedication to maintaining the character of our towns and ensuring that its heritage continues to thrive for future generations. By choosing to renovate, we’re not just honouring the past; we’re also creating a space that will serve the community for years to come.

This new funeral home will be a place of comfort, reflection, and support, embodying our promise to always prioritise the needs of local families”.

A Hands-On Approach

As a father-and-daughter team, Mark and Rebecca Hillier take pride in being hands-on with the renovation projects. From the very start, we have rolled up our sleeves and actively participated in clearing and preparing the site. This personal involvement reflects our commitment to every detail of the process and ensures that the final result embodies the values and care our family business stands for.

Watch Our Progress

We are excited to continue this journey and to welcome you into this revitalised space once it is complete.

Thank you for trusting us to be a part of your lives, and for allowing us to serve Swindon with the same care and compassion that have defined our family business for generations.

Over the coming months we will update this page with photos and videos of the renovation works.
