Coronavirus statement

Update 1st October

Following on from the latest Government advice, we have now made some changes to the services we can offer our clients.
• We can offer home, office, phone or zoom arrangements
• Family and friends can attend the funeral service up to 30 people, masks must be worn at all venues.
• Kingsdown Crematorium – 28 attendees
• North Wiltshire Crematorium – 27 attendees
• Donations can be made online and on the day via our donation boxes
• Limousine hire is now available as our vehicles have been fitted with hygiene screens, face coverings will need to be worn when in the vehicle.
• Funeral services in Church has resumed, we can live stream church service's for anyone unable to attend.
• Singing is not permitted but we can source choral versions of hymns.
• Track and Trace is in place at all venues including our premises (we advise everyone to download the NHS Covid-19 app)

Update 22nd July 2020

Following on from the Government guidance regarding face covering and advice from our professional associations, we recommend that face coverings are worn when visiting our Offices and Chapels. Upon arrival you will be asked to provide your details for the purpose of Track and Trace, your information will be destroyed 21 days after your visit. A Track and Trace system has also been implemented for funeral services. Upon sending the confirmation of funeral arrangements, the Track and Trace form will be provided, this will need to be completed and returned prior to the funeral service.

Limousine hire is now available as our vehicles have been fitted with hygiene screens, below are the screens fitted to the vehicles.

After the Government’s announcement 23rd June, we have now made some changes to or services and what we can offer our clients.

  • We can now offer home garden arrangements as well as video and phone arrangements
  • Family and friends can attend the funeral service
  • Kingsdown Crematorium – 28 attendees
  • North Wiltshire Crematorium – 27 attendees
  • Donations can be made online and on the day via our donation boxes
  • Limousine hire is now available as our vehicles have been fitted with hygiene screens
  • Some Churches have now open for funeral services (However not all, please ask and we can enquire for you)

Update 26th May 2020

Following on from the Government and our Association's advice and guidance, we are now able to provide the below information regarding funeral services.

  • Funeral arrangements will take place over the phone or via a video call
  • Family and close friends can attend the funeral service
  • Kingsdown Crematorium – 16 attendees
  • North Wiltshire Crematorium – 20 attendees
  • Segregated seating during the service
  • Waiting Room has been closed
  • Donations via our website or cheques sent in the post
  • Limousines are available but are limited and only able to accommodate 6 people
  • Family coffin bearers are not permitted to prevent mourners from touching the coffin

We understand that the restrictions in place may be distressing, therefore the below can be offered

  • A webcast of the service
  • DVD or USB recording of the service
  • Live streaming for burials
  • Chapel Visits can be arranged but social distancing will have to be adhered to

Update 29th April 2020

Following on from the government’s advice, we welcome the news that funeral services can still go ahead. However, we still need to ensure that we follow the guidelines regarding social distancing.

As of Tuesday 29th April 2020, the following has been implemented to ensure we follow the government’s advice;

  • Funeral arrangements will take place on the phone or via a video call
  • Limousine Hire has been suspended for all funerals
  • Family will be asked to wait outside the chapel, until the coffin has been taken in and the funeral team have left the chapel
  • Family only to attend the funeral service (Maximum of 10)
  • Chapel visits will be limited to two people per visit, an appointment will need to be made
  • We advise that the date and time of the funeral service are not published with the obituary notice

Restrictions in place at the local crematoria:

  • Segregated seating during the service
  • Curtains will be closed to prevent mourners touching the coffin
  • No mourners will be allowed into the chapel until the Funeral Directors arrival
  • Waiting Room has been closed
  • No donation boxes are allowed in the flower area
  • Family coffin bearers are not permitted to prevent mourners from touching the coffin.

Original Statement 23rd March

During the Coronavirus outbreak Hillier Funeral Service have put several measures in place, to help prevent the spread of the virus. We ask that if you are experiencing any symptoms set out by the government or if you have been in contact with anyone with symptoms, then please do not attend our offices and funeral services.

If you are calling to inform us of a loved one passing away, we will be asking a few additional questions. We mean no offence; this is just ensuring the welfare of our teams so that we are able to help you in this difficult time.

Below are the measures that have been implemented by Hillier Funeral service and what the local crematoria have put in place.

Hillier Funeral Service

  • No home arrangements
  • Washing of hands upon entering our offices
  • Video and Phone Arrangements available
  • Limousine Hire has been suspended

Kingsdown Crematorium

  • Family and close friends in attendance only
  • Segregated seating during the service
  • Curtains will be closed to prevent mourners touching the coffin
  • Waiting Room has been closed
  • Outside speakers can be used if people do not wish to enter the chapel
  • No mourners will be allowed into the chapel until the Funeral Directors arrival

North Wiltshire Crematorium

  • 25 mourners to attend funeral services
  • Segregated seating during the service
  • Curtains will be closed to prevent mourners touching the coffin
  • No mourners will be allowed into the chapel until the Funeral Directors arrival
  • Waiting Room has been closed
