Additional Information

Mum was born on 4th November 1930 at home in Deptford, East London. She was one of 5 children, and grew up during the war. She met dad (George) when she was 15, and they married in 1952 whilst in their early 20’s and stayed at each other’s side for 67 years until dad passed in 2019.

Mum and dad lived a full and busy life and in retirement, travelled extensively across the world. Golf was dad’s passion, and mum was always happy to join him on the course when they were in Spain. She was an excellent ball spotter. They owned a house in Spain for many years, and made lots of friends during the many trips over there.

Mum’s main passion was cooking and we have some fond memories of having large family meals around their big dining table. Her homemade cakes were second to none.

Mum generally enjoyed good health for most of her life, though in her later years, her sight was failing considerably due to Macular Degeneration. Many adjustments had to be made to her daily routines, as she could no longer cook, knit, read and do crosswords, to name but a few. Mum adjusted very well, and rarely complained about how she felt. She was very proud of the achievements that she and dad had in their lives, especially their lovely big home in Broome Manor. Recognising they had a comfortable lifestyle, she was happy to support charities, and would always drop food into the local food banks and put money into collection tins.

Donations

Mum would prefer donation to charities instead of flowers. Hence, we have chosen 2 charities that we know mum had supported for many years.First, RNIB. Many of you will know that mum suffered from Macular Degeneration. She was diagnosed with this condition about 12 years ago, and despite having injections to slow down her sight loss, her eye sight continued to deteriorate and she was declared severely sight impaired by 2021. Once mum started to suffer from this condition, she became extremely aware of how life changing it is, and started to support the RNIB. It seems very fitting for us to select this cause to share any donations made in memory of mum. RNLI . Many of us are aware of the staggering amount of help that comes from the services of RNLI. Whenever we went shopping together, mum was always prepared to donate to RNLI typically when they had collections situated at the entrance to the supermarket. On one such visit, mum agreed to set up a monthly direct debit so that they would get a regular donation each month. I know she would want this charity to also share any donations made in her memory.

Thinking of you, Jan and all Doreen’s family. Although I didn’t get to know her that well, I remember the twinkle in her eye and how much she loved her family.

Jan and family so sorry we can’t be with you on Tuesday but you will all be in our thoughts. Aunty Do was a beautiful lady and there were so many memories especially those family affairs at Cliff Terrace. We have been so lucky that the Florey girls all lived well into their nineties.
I read this and thought it so true.
Our loved ones leave a light that will never fade or dim
It’s kept bright by the love we feel and the memories we made..com
    Goodbye dear sister and aunt.
