Thinking of the fun we had when Bradford Players did mini tours with OTTC. Lovely memories of Ash, who was always so kind, gentle and funny.

Always did like that guy xx.
Memories of Ashley from the old GWR Museum
Ash, you’ve left us with some great memories, wonderful times and lots of laughs! What more could anyone ask for! You certainly won’t be forgotten. As you would say… Cheers Squire! Pxx
I had a really great experience adjudicating the festival for Ashley a few years ago, one of the best-organised festivals I have done before or since. Thoughts are with you Nancy.
Is it possible to know someone you’ve never met? Someone who lived in another country? Because of my lifelong friendship with Nancy the answer is yes.
Ash first sprang to life for me in Nancy’s elated letters as she was falling in love with him. Then there were the beautiful wedding photos that captured the magic of a day I couldn’t attend in person. What a thrill to see this handsome, kind, compassionate man in photos. I knew Nancy had met someone very special. Over the years, I eagerly awaited news of the new theatre productions, the game nights at pubs, the quixotic house projects. Nancy’s account of the delivery of a stove remains one of the funniest stories I’ve ever envisioned. And then the grim news of this terrible tumor. And yet…my early fear was ameliorated by Nancy’s cheerful accounts of how they managed and turned this terrible turn of events into their next adventure. I marveled with every note at how Ash and Nancy turned this terrible diagnosis into a chance to become closer, happier, more loving.
In the story of happy marriages, there is a special chapter on the marriage of Ash and Nancy. They truly lived the vow to love each other in sickness and health. In doing so, they inspired all who knew them. I stood and stand in awe of what they accomplished. Ash’s quiet heroism, continued good humor, and valiant fight against cancer are his triumph over that diagnosis. He was a remarkable man.
One of my favorite passages from a novel is the closing lines in A River Runs Through it.
“Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world’s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs.”
On January 25th, all of the words belonged to Nancy and Ash. May their beautiful story continue in memory. I love you Nancy. Your love of Ash was a radiant force for good. Craig and I are sending you all of our love and healing thoughts. May his memory be a balm. Love, Jamie
God bless lovely man xxx

It has been my privilege to know Ashley, to adjudicate the Harold Joliffe One Act Play Festival on more than one occasion, and to have welcomed him as a terrific guest speaker at the Drama Festivals Conference. Thanks Ashley for being one of the nicest, most enthusiastic and positive people I have known. My life has been all the better for having known you.
To a man who was witty and kind and compassionate in equal measure. A man who will be missed so so very much but lived life with love. xxxx
What a man – such a pleasure to have known such a lovely guy. I shall miss everything about Ashley, but especially the laughter … such a naturally, warm and funny guy. But his compassionate nature may also be the outstanding quality which made him such an excellent journalist too. Condolences and love to Nancy; much love.

Remembering our many laughs together at Swindon Cable. A joy to have known you.
Ash, thank you for all the laughs and for being a great friend in good times and bad. So many fab memories with our 98 Okus crew. I’m in total awe of how you handled your brain tumour, and how brilliantly Nancy supported you throughout. I’m sad and cross that the tumour has taken you from us far too soon, but at least we were able to tell you we loved you & spend quality time with you in the past few years – I enjoyed our chats. Rest in Peace, you lovely human! Xxoo
Ashley was far to young to leave us.
