My lovely, lovely mummy, I will miss you so much. You always cared for others as a nurse, mother and our community through running the shop and post office with dad. You were talented, constantly knitting and creating amazing embroideries an avid reader and a whizz at computer games. After dad died, I managed to repay your care of me by caring for you, we had fun and spent a lot of time together. Your pure determination and finding tools to enable you to live well at home, meant you were there to the end. Love you today and always, Jane x
I had the pleasure to look after Maureen for 3 years such a lovely lady. Who has made my both laugh and cry.

A lovely lady.
We had the pleasure of knowing Maureen through our daughter in law Jane. She was always delighted to see us, and loved seeing our grandchildren with whom she had infinite patience.
At this, the saddest of times, we send our deepest condolences and love to Jane who has tirelessly looked after her mum in her twilight years, being with her to the very end. Mo was very proud of you Jane, as are we for way you have cared for her. Know that we are here for you
Sending much love.
My lovely Maureen! I’m so happy that I met you in my life. We spent the last five years together and I never ever felt like I was working. You told me so many interesting stories, we had such a good laugh! Enjoying cakes, ice creams, fish and chips, and we can’t forget chocolate, our little secret from Jane, your wonderful daughter ? We sometimes just drove around in the car and you would read other cars number plates and I would laugh and laugh. My car will always be named by you – How Was Christmas ?. And always after one, two, three there will be mother caught a flee ? and after every pothole there will always be an oopsy daisy.
I will never forget you my Maureen ❤️??

A very kind and thoughtful Aunty. Always interested in family news. A lovely great Aunty too, who knitted my boys beautiful jumpers when they were little. Couldn’t wait for winter so that they could wear them! She came into my life when I was 6 years old. A great addition to our family..
Very happy memories of a lovely Aunty.
Our heartfelt condolences! What a lovely soul Maureen is. Ireally enjoyed being in her company the few visits I had with her. Our thoughts are with you all. xx
So very sad to hear the news. I have many happy memories of Pete and Maureen from growing up on St. Margaret’s Road and our endless trips to the Post Office, always cheerily greeted by the Williams. I will never forget Maureen’s distinct “thank ‘en you”!! Both kind souls and pillars of our community, representing an era that will be sorely missed. RIP Maureen and thanks for all you did for our family and community ❤️
Jane, I’m so sorry for the loss of your mom. She was a lovely lady who had a wonderful smile and sweet heart. She must have been someone pretty special to raise such a caring and dedicated daughter. While I’m sure the last few years have been hard, the quality and joy in her life was made possible with your dedication to your mom. You are a wonderful daughter and I’m sure she’s smiling down from above. Big hugs from across the pond, Courtney
Such a heart breaking loss. I had the pleasure of caring for maureen, she always had a smile for me when I saw her and I will never forget her cheerful face. She taught me a lovely little rhyme in which I have passed down to my children and that will be passed down through generations. A little piece of maureen will live on. My deepest sympathy to Maureen’s daughter Jane she was so proud of you and spoke of you alot, its a real comfort to know you were there with her to the end. Rest in peace beautiful lady xxxx
Sincere condolences to all the family. Maureen will be missed. So many great memories of the Williams’ corner shop, sadly no longer there.
With much love from the Pickett family.
One of my first memories of Mo was when I was pregnant, I went to visit Jane and Mark and Mo was there. It took her all of 5 mins before she had her hands on my bump telling me she was a midwife and feeling where baby’s head was as. She answered all the questions I had happily.
We loved having Mo in our family and looked forward to seeing her. Our children loved her and it was lovely to see her watch our children grow. She will be missed by everyone.

I feel so grateful to have had you in our lives. We enjoyed every Christmas we got to spend with you! The girls loved seeing you and Olivia has lovely memories of playing with you on your ipad, you were so calm with her even when she kept losing the game she was on. I have lovely memories of taking you out for coffee and cake while Jane was on holiday!
Jane I love you so much, you should be so proud of yourself as you kept Mo at home till the very end even though it made your life harder! You did everything for your lovely mum and have even cancelled holidays to be there to look after her. You did it all with a smile on your face!

Mr and Mrs W will be smiling down, immensely proud of their daughter, my wonderful friend Jane.
I will always be grateful for the many Christmas days & Boxing days spent at number 20 and the memories shared with the Williams family, where I was always invited with open arms.
I felt part of the family and was made to feel so very very welcome.
Jane, you were there for your mum, always and you did everything you possibly could over the years, coupled with your mum’s pure determination, so that she could live well in the home she loved, with the extra comfort of
knowing that you carried out your lovely mums wishes to the very end.
With much love and very happy memories,
Jane C xx
Goodbye to a lovely lady who was my second mum and treated me as a daughter.
Maureen and Peter were not only the “Corner Shop” but the cornerstone of the community when in 1976 we arrived in St. Margaret’s Road as newlyweds. Their warmth and welcome was palpable. When our two daughters arrived they were greeted with equal enthusiasm and Maureen’s skills as a midwife were evident when she exclaimed one late February morning, when minus a coat I ventured into the shop ” Ah! Mrs. Hardwick/Daphne have you got some happy news for us?”
Once each daughter arrived a congratulatory card and bag of fruit was handed over to Reg with strict instructions that this was to be delivered post-haste.
Susannah and Isabel have many happy memories of trips to the shop especially on Saturday morning “sweetie day” to spend their pocket money. Peter would always make sure that they safely crossed the road permitting them some independence and both he and Maureen were amazingly patient as they made their choice of penny sweets. Proudly displayed on our kitchen noticeboard is a photograph of Susannah in her pram next to the shop counter. Memories to be treasured! Maureen, thank you for a life well-lived, rest in peace and rise in glory.
On asking my family for their memories of Maureen they all said Boxing Day morning at Peter and Maureens.
The fire blazing in the grate, sausage rolls, mince pies, sweets and lemonade (whiskey for the adults)
Friends and neighbours there and Peter telling his stories.
My memory is Maureen ringing me to ask if Ross could stay to make a bonfire with Tim (a regular event) really she was saying he will need a bath and clothes washed when he gets home.
They were special days.
Sheila
