Our last grandparent — 96 and out, a great innings. As children, we always had her little “pop-bys” at birthdays or any event. They were never planned but always perfectly timed, and she somehow managed to arrive by bus with enough presents to open a small shop. She was never in a rush and always enjoyed her food and drink — and in her later years it became a running race to see who would finish last at the dinner table: the great-grandchild or the great-gran herself.
