Robert Henry Whitfield
Bob Whitfield was born in Lancashire in 1923. In his early working life he was an Industrial Chemist employed at Riley’s chemical works in Hapton, near Burnley. In the late 1940s he moved to Stroud, in Gloucestershire to take up a post as a Development Chemist at the Erinoid Works, in Lightpill, where plastics were manufactured. In 1974 Bob and family moved to Beckenham, in Kent, so that he could take a up job in Central London at the Patent Office. After retirement Bob and his wife End moved to Wroughton, near Swindon. After Enid’s death in 2006 Bob continued to live in Wroughton for 5 more years before illness meant he could no longer live alone, and after convalescence he went to live with his eldest daughter, Helen in Swindon. In 2014 Bob moved to the Orchid Care Home in Swindon where he was well cared for until his death on Thursday 2nd April 2020.
